Contend to Win-Mavericks Make a Run at SPC

St. John’s Mavericks landed three trophies this fall season at SPC held in greater Houston. Field Hockey was crowned SPC Champions and earned a #5 national ranking. Boys' and Girls' Cross Country teams both finished runners-up.  Boys' Volleyball put on their best performance of the season losing to the eventual champion, while Girls' Volleyball was one win from the championship game along with Football.  Way to contend to the end, Mavericks!

Flurry on Finnegan-Field Hockey Takes Out Falcons for the 'Ship and #5 National Ranking

St. John’s and Kinkaid have squared off in the championship final for five consecutive years.  The Mavericks won in 2018 and 2019 and Kinkaid won last season and in 2020 for the City title. Both teams were destined to be in the finals once again, and Kinkaid showed off their #2 national ranking with a 2-0 win over St. John’s in late September. A month later, however, St. John’s would return the favor winning the South Zone counter 2-1. The Mavs also earned a #5 national ranking, plus the number one seed in the SPC tournament, and home-field advantage at SPC. The stage was set for the 5th consecutive St. John’s-Kinkaid championship final.

Shining Bright-Girls' Cross Country Align for Runner-Up Finish

After a bronze podium team finish in 2021 the girls' cross country team was determined to enter the 2022 season ready to give the top two teams in the conference a “run” for the title.  The team trained through the summer on hills, intervals, maintenance, and long runs, culminating with the annual team retreat in the state of Washington.

Stepping Up-Boys' Cross Country Makes the Podium

The Mavericks came into the summer with the goal of getting back to the top tier of the SPC. While we fell four points short of winning an SPC championship, the team came through with a 2nd place performance and took home its first trophy since 2019! Led by captains Konnor Allen, Wilson Bailey, Cameron Ederle, and William Thames, the team worked diligently and was focused on team pack running and proving that we could be one of the best teams in the conference.

Leaving it on the Field-Football Contends for Playoffs

The Maverick Varsity Football team continues to build a strong foundation. The Mavericks challenged themselves in the non-conference, opening up with St. Thomas and then playing two of the 2021 Final Four teams from TAPPS Division 2. The Maverick's offense, which scored more than 35 ppg, was a fast attack that was too much to handle. The defense was opportunistic, making the plays when they needed it most, including 4 INTs inside the five-yard line. This team, led by their seniors, who only lost one home game in their four years, will be remembered for raising the standard of what it means to be a Maverick Football player.

Bend Christian, and Dulles.
